Chemagne
began dancing at the age of 11 learning jazz and baton twirling which led to West African and Caribbean Dance. Since
discovering Bellydance in 1999, her passion for dance began to change. Today, Chemagne is a sought-after Bellydance
performer and instructor, who has taught many women with passion, grace and enthusiasm the art of Bellydance at
various studios across Toronto
including, M-DO Studios, Toronto Bellydance Collective, Premier Fitness Club, Fitness One, Yoga Studio, and City Dance Corps.
Chemagne’
s Bellydance training and technique comes from many recognized Bellydance Artists and instructors, such as Roula Said, Yazmina
Ramzy, Mayada Hesham, Tahia Sassine, and Badia Starr. She has also learned from some of the leading educators in the bellydance
community from the United
States, including
Suhaila Salimpour, Rachel Brice, Elena Lentini, and Ansuya.
In addition,
Chemagne was a dance member of the hottest dance groups in Toronto.The Roulettes Middle Eastern Dance Group (2001-2004),
Nouvel Expose Dance Troupe (2003-2004), and Tropicaliente Latin Dancers (Oct. 2004-May 2005),
As a solo performer,
Chemagne's stunning performances, capitivating stage presence, and dynamic energy has been seen by many at various venues,
nightclubs, and special events in North
America and the United States. She has danced at Lula Lounge, Caliban Arts Theatre, Bana Y' Afrique Festival,
The Rivoli Nightclub, Toronto African Festival, Betty Oliphant Theatre, Touch Lounge on King, MissAfricanada 2005,
Cafe Mirage, the International Jerk and Jazz Festival, Montero’s Café in San Francisco, and The Rakassah Festival in
California.
In addition
to Bellydance, she became very interested in yoga and other dance forms. In 2000, Chemagne began studying kundalini yoga
and taught classes at Women's Help and Women's Hands, Ontario College of Art, University of Toronto Atheltic Centre, The Ashanti Room, Kundalini Yoga for Brown Girls, Bob Abate Community
Centre, Bellwoods Community Centre, The Yoga Studio, 3HO Ashram, and the Lotus Yoga Studio.
Chemagne's unique
dance training and movement background also includes, Latin Dance, West/East African Dance, Classical Indian, Pole Dance
Fitness, Hatha Yoga, Continuum Movement, and Pilates. She is certified level I in the Suhaila Salimpour Format
from the Suhaila School of Dance in San Francisco, and a certified pilates I mat instructor from the East to West Yoga
Studio. Chemagne continues to learn, progress, and refine her technique as a Bellydance instructor and performer.
Prior to falling
in love with the art of Bellydance Chemagne worked in the financial sector as a business adminstrator. She received
her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from York University, did post-gradate studies in Environmental Studies at
Wilfrid Laurier University, and graduated from George Brown College in Fashion Design.
